On 1st July 2019, it was announced that Bugden Legal, a boutique law firm in Brisbane, merged with Sydney-based Allen Partners and will now be known as Bugden Allen Lawyers.

Bugden Allen Lawyers brings together two recognised leaders in strata law – Gary Bugden and Michael Allen – to create what will undoubtedly become one of Australia’s most authoritative firms on property development and strata law matters.

For over 40 years, Gary and Michael have specialised in strata law, having started their careers together at a boutique law firm in Double Bay. They both went on to become partners of Australia’s largest law firm at the time, Mallesons Stephens Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons). Gary was managing partner of their Brisbane office and sat on the national board for 9 years while Michael was the national partner in charge of the property, construction and environment team for 5 years.

Gary and Michael have written books together and consulted on numerous projects both in Australia and overseas. They have forged a reputation as international leaders in this area of law and helped shape Australia’s strata title and development industry.

We are so excited about this merger with Michael’s firm and the expansion of our practice into NSW.ˮ – Gary Bugden, Partner, Brisbane.

The NSW practice of Bugden Allen Lawyers will be able to offer legal advice under the new brand name in a few weeks. In Queensland, this name change comes into effect today (1 July).

Gary and Michael have decided to merge their practices as they see a fantastic opportunity to set up a “NewLaw” firm which has a modern corporate structure that will help attract the most talented lawyers and to drive the disruption about to occur in the way legal services are delivered to the property and strata management industry.

In that regard, Bugden Allen Lawyers have created their own technology company “Stratavine” which is the vehicle that will be used to build out their exciting roadmap of solutions for the industry.
