BUGT and QLD strata law updates – January 2024

The Building Units and Group Titles Act 1980 (BUGTA) reform will come into effect on 29 January 2024.

The changes will see a 20% increase to dispute application fees lodged with the Body Corporate and Community Management Commission.

It is important to distinguish these changes from the BCCMA changes announced at the end of last year, of which there is no enactment date set.

The Commissioner’s Office handles BUGTA disputes, as well as information and education about BUGTA.

See for example – BCCM services and forms | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au)

The Commissioner currently publishes ‘Common Ground’; relating to community titles schemes BCCM Common Ground e-newsletter – Dataset – Publications | Queensland Government, but is also now introducing BUGTA Buzz, you can subscribe here – Subscribe (vision6.com.au)

Once Government decides the commencement date of the much anticipated changes to the BCCM Act (pets, smoking, towing and scheme termination / renewal) we will be sure to notify you promptly.
